Water Supply to Mulapadia from Naraj Source | Getting Naraj Water to Mulapadia Area - A dream for over fifteen years – Came to reality after commissioning of pipe line from Fire Station Square to Mulapadia Reservoir. Water supply to Mulapadia from Naraj source was initiated after functioning of 115 MLD Water Treatment Plant at Mundali during the year 1996-97. A proposal for Augmentation of 46 MLD water to Bhubaneswar city from Naraj source for an estimated amount of Rs. 484.30 lakh got administratively approved vide H & U.D. Department letter No. 13363 dt: 02.05.1997 and was taken up for implementation with water supply to Mulapadia being a part of it. Laying of pipe line from Fire Training School to Mulapadia was provisioned in this proposal and some portion was laid along the old narrow road leaving missing links at different places due to space constraint, non-availability of Railway crossing permission, clearance of P.W.D. authorities and other site difficulties. Besides, a patch of pipe line was dislocated while construction of fly over bridge at Punamagate. Further a long stretch of pipe line came to the middle of the carriage way after widening of the road from Fire Station to Ekamra Chhak which invited frequent problem of leakages on the newly built up road due to plying of regular traffic. Water Supply to Mulapadia from Naraj source was delayed and scarcity of water became cumulative in Old Town area. Considering the gravity of situation and importance of water supply to Old Town, it was felt pertinent and proposed for commissioning of Naraj Water Supply to Mulapadia on shifting and laying of M.S. pipe line on the alignment finalized in between the space available in front of the various departmental quarters and the road, although it was very difficult and tedious. General Administration Deptt., Govt. of Odisha was pleased to accept the proposal and allowed to lay Water Supply pipe line inside the quarters area with stipulations. O.U.A.T. & Water Resources authorities were also very much cooperative for completion of the work. Director of Airport Authorities of India, Biju Patnaik Airport also allowed to lay pipe line inside their campus. After several persuasion, only Commissioner of Income Tax Department of India, Bhubaneswar did not allow to lay pipe line inside their quarters. But the pipe line work has been successfully completed and Water Supply to Mulapadia area is ensured. Hon’ble Chief Minister, Odisha has inaugurated the project on 27.04.2013 and dedicated to the public. Around 3.4 lakh liters of water per hour from Naraj source is being supplied to Mulapadia and Palasapalli Reservoir. By this project more than twenty thousand people are directly benefitted. The scarcity of water of entire old town area is mitigated. The long standing dream of people of Old Town area became true nearly after fifteen years. The general public of the Mulapadia area are very happy now as they do not face any problem for scarcity of drinking water. Sd/- Sd/- Assistant Engineer, Executive Engineer, P.H.
