1. Objective/ purpose of the Public Authority:
To provide minimum facilities like safe drinking water to the habitants of urban areas.
2. Mission/ Vision Statement of the Public Authority:
Provide safe drinking water to urban habitants and Govt. residential & Non-residential building in urban areas.
3. Brief history of the public authority and context of its formation:
This division comes under Housing & Urban Development Department. Govt. of Odisha, Bhubaneswar. Previously the Public Health Division has undertaken W/S and sanitation for both Urban and Rural areas up to July 1992. As per guide lines of Govt. of India for safe water supply to the urban people this Department was bifurcated. Now the Urban Public Health Division under taking the works of providing drinking water in ULB. This Department is getting funds from Central Govt. & State Govt. for different water supply schemes.
4. Main activities/ Functions of the Public Authority:
This division is mainly executing the works in Municipality & N.A.C. areas for drinking water supply schemes such as -
i) Piped water supply to Domestic use.
ii) Piped water supply through stand post.
iii) Repair and maintenance of Pipe Water Supply.
iv) Sinking of tube wells in different places where there is no Pipe Water supply for public use.
v) Sewerage system & Sewerage disposal to different Govt. buildings.

6. Allocation of business:
As per instruction laid down by the Govt. in H &U.D. Deptt. The residence holder of the concerned ULB are eligible to take house connection for drinking water. They are requested to submit the application before the concerned authority for the purpose after due scrutiny as per available of source of water, the authority is electing the application and sending information to the concerned person for depositing the required fees before the authority concerned. After receipt of the required amount, the authority approves the proposal and depute technical staff working under his control to provide the water supply connection to the particular house/institution.
As per the instruction of the Govt. the house owner is required to deposit the monthly bill amount before the authority concerned as fixed.
7.Domestic Water Supply to Berhampur Town
Berhampur town, is situated in Ganjam district of Odisha State, and Population wise, it is third largest city of the State. The name “Berhampur” is an anglicized form of the word “Brahmapur” which etymologically means abode of Brahma, the creator of universe. The town become Municipality in 1867 under the Madras Presidency. Berhampur is known as the “Silk City of Odisha. (is an important commercial, business, educational and cultural centre of Southern Odisha.)
Piped water supply to Berhampur town commenced in the year1905 serving population of 30,000. The system consisted of 4.54 MLD capacity slow sand filtration plant at Dakhinapur treating raw water of Dakhinapur impounding reservoir. The capacity of slow sand filtration was augmented by 2.25 MLD in the year 1961.
As the town grew in size owing to migration of people for commercial and business interests, the “Rushikulya Joint Water Supply System” with radial Collector Wells at Badamadhapur was commissioned in the year 1983. This system presently supplies 16 MLD water to Berhampur.
The Dakhinapur water treatment plant was expanded by addition of 4.54 MLD rapid gravity filtration plant in the year 2002. In May’ 2012, further expansion took place by addition of 20 MLD rapid gravity filtration plant.
The present population of Berhampur town is about 3,70,000.
Domestic Water Demand of the town @ 135 Lpcd is 50 million litre per day.

Dakhinapur Source= 30 MLD
Rushikulya JWs= 16 MLD
Production Wells in the town=4 MLD
9. Mechanism available for monitering the service delivery and Public grievance resolution:
Though there is no specific day for grievances all the Grievances can be heard during office hours subject to availability of head of the office.
10. Citizen Interaction:
Provision has been made so far till enactment of Right to Information Act-2005.
